What is an Eco-lodge?

Around the world, eco-lodges are in special places of great beauty and often remote wilderness.  They offer guests direct contact with nature.

Every aspect of the business aims to have a low impact on the environment with a focus on understanding and caring for the natural world.

It is also important that an eco-lodge involves local people and promotes understanding of local work and lifestyle.

What makes us 'eco'?
A hydro-electric scheme will provide the majority of our electricity needs.
A log-fired boiler will provide our heating using wood from the surrounding forests.
Our timber can be sourced from the local sawmill using locally grown trees.
Our water will come from the hillside.
A super-insulated building, design for solar gain and solar panels all help to save energy.
The Highland Township project is a tourism development designed to use local materials and very little power during its construction and occupation.

Escape Lodge aims for a low-impact on the natural world.

to live amongst, and in balance with, the natural surroundings
to use natural materials and alternative technologies where possible and viable
to maintain environmentally responsible day to day living wherever possible

to use renewable energy sources
to reduce waste wherever possible by careful purchasing and recycling
to promote the understanding, care and conservation of the land, sea and wildlife around us
to encourage the use of public transport
to develop Escape Lodge with respect for, and minimum impact upon, the existing flora, fauna, landscape and community.
